Update: Scales of Power – Celestial Heir #2

After writing another ~25k words in book two, I’ve made the decision to split my original outline for book two into books two and three. Story-wise, nothing is affected. This change was made solely in the interest of length, as I didn’t want to rush the next part of the book. The current draft for book two is sitting at ~115k words, ~3k more words than book one.

With this minor change, Celestial Heir will be at least five books long, with potential room for a sixth book. Book two’s original name, Wings of Rebellion, will now be the name for book three. Book two’s name will be Scales of Power.

Currently, I have to finish the epilogue and add a scene before the draft of Scales of Power is complete. Then, the fun part begins: editing! I won’t give any concrete dates for release, but I’ll be sure to post updates every so often. 🙂

  1. That’s a curious decision. Of course you’re the author, and you know what’s best for the story, but jumping book lengths within the seires is hardly something unseen
Gryphon Insurrection goes from 64k in book one to 129k in book two
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro is 133k while The Ikessar Falcon is 211k
First four of The Dark Tower books are 55k, 126k, 173k, 255k
But, again, you’re the author. And most series stay more or less consistent lengthwise, so don’t take my message is trying to force you in any direction. Just sharing some lil tidbits 😉

Keep up the great work ^^ Celestial Heir is a story I’ve been looking for for years and couln’t find, and I’m very happy it’s being written!

    1. Thanks for the kind words! Another reason was that I was afraid I’d go over the length limit for paperbacks on Amazon, and I didn’t want to change the formatting (font size, etc) to make it fit. The third entry will likely be a smaller page count, but I’d rather play it on the safe side.

Thankfully, what I have written is a complete story (except for one pov 😉) so it won’t seem out of nowhere. I’ll also be able to go back and add a few scenes or rewrite some sections that I may have rushed to keep the length shorter. I’m a little sad, because I was excited to write the ending for what is now book 3, but I’m also content with how the story and characters are progressing now. It’s definitely more streamlined compared to book 1.
